What is a Doula? (dou•la | doola)

A trained professional who provides physical and emotional support before, during and after childbirth. Doulas help you achieve healthy outcomes.

What kind of services can I receive?

As a Medicaid member, your doula benefit include:

  •  Three (3) prenatal visits while pregnant. 
    *Plus two additional prenatal visits are available to you as a Value-Added Benefit (5 prenatal doula visits total)
  • Support during labor and delivery 
  • Three (3) visits after birth
    *5 additional postpartum visits are available if recommended by your provider (8 postpartum visits total)

Why should I work with or partner with a doula?

Doulas can help:

  • Answer questions about pregnancy, labor and after birth.
  • Brainstorm ideas and birth planning.
  • Provide comfort through emotional and physical support.
  • Advocate for you in medical situations.
  • Help with pain management during labor.
  • Provide postpartum support and guidance with breastfeeding.
